Mises Economics Blog

New Site Search in Place

June 23, 2009 7:22 AM by Jeffrey Tucker (Archive)

Not on the blog (the widget seems great as is) but everywhere else on the site, we are running a Google search appliance (a Mini) that provides many great advantages. The limits of the free tools had long ago been reached, so that our literature was not be fully indexed and page caches of large files were nowhere to be seen.

The new appliance indexes every square inch of the site, and we've spent several weeks prepping the site for this in other ways: posting cut down versions of larger files and applying new tags and opening new folders for the appliance to crawl constantly.

Another nice feature is the Site Search that allows you to look at various sectors of the site within a single search and the advanced search which provides file type searches and other more specific queries.

This little tool has been our constant obsession for several months now, and so far we are very pleased. We all hope that this enhances site use for you and your purposes! Of course we regret not having this years ago but that's the way genuine progress works: everything in its time.

    Jeffery,

I just have to commend you for the work you are doing here. The Mises site is by far the best, most accessable economics site I have found and the absolutely wonderful resources blow me away.

It is said that the victor writes the rules and that is very true of literature. The writers you have here especially from the Great Depression were some of the most important and most respected at the time. But they have been totally ignored by most academics. How many people outside of the Mises circle know Garet Garrett, Benjamin Anderson, or Henry Hazzlitt, Murry Rothbard, even Ludwig von Mises himself.

You are keeping the truth alive and to that we all owe you a huge debt of gratitude as does the whole world.

    Thank you!

Given the standards of czars, I would be perfect: my code writing is catastrophically bad. This was put in place by a team of coders that did not include me. I'm only here to make the announcement.
