The Story of American Revisionism

May 29, 2009 8:15 AM by Jeff Riggenbach (Archive)

One can assemble the revisionist works of the New Historians, the New Left Historians, and the Libertarian Historians into a coherent narrative of American history from the Revolution through the early days of the Cold War. In effect, this is precisely what Gore Vidal has done, in his American Chronicle novels. FULL ARTICLE

Nice. Combines an understanding of historical revisionism with some history of libertarian thought.

Does Riggenbach go into the very important work that Barnes and Martin did in the area of "holocaust" revisionism ? Both regarded this as the major key to debunking WW2 as the good war, the later demonization in the cold war and stopping a major war in the Middle East. Also I noticed on halfcom that Riggenbach is listed as the co-speaker on an audio with Netanyahu on defeating terrorism ! This was in 2001. Is this the same Riggenbach ? Because Benjamin Netanyahu is a major terrorist.
    Please clarify these two issues.

I believe Michael Hardesty is referring to this:

Yes, that's the same Reason magazine we all know and hate today.

WIKI on "revisionist" James J. Martin:

"Starting in 1979 Martin began to associate with the Institute for Historical Review, a Holocaust denial group, severely undercutting, in the minds of some, his previous credibility as a historian.[citation needed] One of his last books was The Man Who Invented Genocide: The Public Career and Consequences of Raphael Lemkin published in 1984."

    Barry Loberfeld:

FYI, the book about Raphael Lemkin is not about holocaust denial (Lemkin was a Polish Jew), it's about the politicization of war-time atrocities ("war crimes") by the victors in World War II.

You must have been looking at the audio book "Fighting Terrorism" by Netanyahu on half.com (http://product.half.ebay.com/Fighting-Terrorism_W0QQprZ2292193QQtgZinfo).

Jeff Riggenbach is the reader of the audio version of the book (see http://www.blackstoneaudio.com/audiobook.cfm?id=2876), just as he is the reader of many, many audio books (see http://www.blackstoneaudio.com/Search.cfm?search=Jeff%20Riggenbach), including many libertarian and political works, as his bio next to the full text of the above article states (http://mises.org/daily/3434).

Marcus, go to ihr.org and vho.org for a full listing of revisionist titles totally refuting the standard "holocaust"line including the very term itself. Robert Faurisson, Paul Rassinier, Arthur Butz, Germar Rudolph, WalterSanning, Jurgen Graf, Josef Burg, Carlo Mattognoand Richard Harwood are some of the authors involved. Also check out the CODOH site and see theApril, 1976 Reason interview with Jim Martin that Iconducted with three others, one of the best things toever appear in Reason. The whole subject is too long to go into here which is why I give sources. Thanks for the clarification on Netahanyahu andRiggenbach. Martin was a holocaust revisionist long before his book on Lemkin.

I want to clarify one thing here and this will be my
final comment. In late 2004-early 2005 I had an exchange of emails swith Jeff Riggenbach strongly taking issue with a brief snide comment he made on Jim Martin's advocacy of holocaust revisionism in his otherwise fine tribute to Martin on antiwar.com. Riggenbach wrote me that he was forced to put that
in by Justin Raimondo because Raimondo was
getting so much heat on his (Raimondo's)anti-Israeli politics. Riggenbach wrote that he was going to do a book on revisionism wherein he would set the record straight on holocaust revisionism and respond to uninformed critics who attacked Martin at the time of his death in April, 2004 because of Jim's
association with IHR. In June 2007 I emailed Jeff to
find out how the book was coming and he wrote a
non-denial denial that he was writing same ! At which
time I terminated all communication with him as I
found this to be the typical intellectual cowardice so
exemplified by libertarians who knew better. Not the
least Murray Rothbard and many people in his inner circle. While Riggenbach has some fine things to say about Barnes and Martin he avoids this hot potato
and as far as I know David L. Hoggan's The Forced War, which is the best diplomatic history of the
events preceding WW2. Much of the revisionism Riggenbach puts in is the safe, popular New Left stuff of the 60s.
Again, I refer people to the IHR.org site despite my
intense dislike of Mark Weber, the director, to find
out the referenced authors I previously mentioned,
many of whose books are available at Amazon.com.
When you go to IHR highlight the links section at the top and you can to VHO, CODOH, etc., from there.
    Happy reading.

Oh no! A self-proclaimed historical revisionist isn't politically-correct on the Holocaust? What a devastating accusation.

Ick, and ick, on finding out that Mr. Riggenbach read the writings of such a vile criminal.
