  Absolutely brilliant suggestion, more important today, than ever!

  Americans are 'at risk', of the depredation of their earnings and savings through inflation & debt driven spending.

  The only realistic solution is to allow, competition among currencies & specie!

  This, would alone demand honesty in policy, for those politicians & bureaucrats who today, 'print at will', thus debauching both: the bread earned by labor & the savings supporting our retirees; simply for the benefit of warfare and welfare for foreign & domestic.

  Allowing Americans 'freedom' of currency transaction, would bring honesty and encourage growth of 'transactions' here quickly, a sure step in the right direction; towards liberty and prosperity!

  Read this book. Savor the ideas and potential gain.
  -and pay Mises.org the very small fee they ask for their service & offering. Gems of wisdom, -bargains, at any price! :)

  This Telegraph (UK) Jan 19th article explains how the Germans are getting by without the euro:
  "If you live in the Bavarian region of Chiemgau, you can exist for months at a time in a euro-free zone of hills and lakes with a population of half a million people. Restaurants, bakeries, hairdressers and a network of supermarkets will accept the local currency: the Chiemgauer.

  Notes are exchanged freely like legal tender. You can even use a debit card. Petrol stations are still a problem, but biofuel outlets are signing up. Dentists are next.

  The Chiemgauer is one of 16 regional currencies that have sprung into existence across Germany and Austria since the launch of the euro five years ago.

  Another 49 regions are in the pipeline."

  Having a real choice of currency would imply that income taxes on inflation gains could be avoided.

  That currently isn't allowed in the US and seems unlikely to explictly change (it might become impossible to enforce).
