RSS Feeds Update

December 30, 2008 8:57 AM by David Veksler (Archive)

I am migrating the Mises.org RSS feeds to a RESTfull WCF-based framework.

For those interested in such things, I have a few questions:

  • Can your feed reader read the new Upcoming Events and the Daily Article feeds?
  • RSS, ATOM, or both?
  • Is there any other Mises.org content you would like to access from your reader?
  • Would you like to help with Mises.org development?

The daily article feeds both work in google reader. Do you plan on having the full text of the article in the feed like it is now?

I would love to volunteer to work on Mises.org development. I have several years of experience as a web developer consultant.

Ditto for Google Reader. It picks up both feeds.

    Yes
    RSS
I thought it was all already in there :)
    Yes

Why WCF? Microsoft standards don't have a very good track history IMO.

I have fairly solid WCF/.NET experience you can tap into if need be.

@Dixie: WCF is nothing more than a communication framework. I'm not sure what it has to do with standards.

I would just like to ask if it is possible to have the full text of articles and blog entries in the RSS feeds, instead of the first couple of sentences.

    1. Yes and yes.

    2. Both (via Firefox/3.0.5).

    3. Not at this time.

    4. I'm not a web developer by trade, but I'd be happy to help in any way I can—e.g., beta-testing. (I use Linux, which is definitely a minority desktop OS, so I would be a good candidate for beta-testing.)

    On NetNewsWire (Mac):

Both the RSS feeds of "Upcoming Events" and "Daily Articles" show up and the content is there but the dates are all the same and the creator is always webmaster@mises.org.

The Daily Article Atom feed is perfect.

    1) Both feeds are working fine through Apple Mail 3 (Mac OS X Leopard)

    2) Both, yes

    3) Not sure at the moment

    4) I'll happily beta test anything for the Mac platform, if needed

While Atom is currently in vogue, please keep support for RSS 1.0 (RDF) as that enables your feeds to be natively used with emerging Semantic Web tools.

Is there a feed available of the newly-released titles in the Mises shop?

I am Linux using KDE and the Kontact email/RSS. I don't see the same list of feeds as I do in the iGoogle gadget.

    In KDE I have:
    ..Greenspan..
    ..Crisis...10 points
    ...Income and Tolerance
    ..Detroit....
    The Left, The right...
    Hamilton's Curse
    ...Crisis shake our faith
    ...Garet Garrett
    Free Market Ed...(12/24)

    In iGoogle:
    The Left, ...Embeded
    ..Crisis..10...
    Greenspan...
    The Left....
    Lucas...
    Rockwell....
    Mises...Colorado
    RSS Feeds Update
    Uncivil War..

I thought they were the same feeds, but I don't get the same content.
