Dr. No, You've Got Company

July 16, 2008 12:55 PM by N. Joseph Potts (Archive)

This is the Web site of TheMiddleClass.org, which grades the voting record of Dr. Paul Broun of the 12th District of Georgia a big, fat F, for voting NAY on 13 of the 15 bills that happened to interest them in 2008 thus far.

Broun feels the government should NOT be allowed to go nosing about into things that weren't enumerated in the Constitution as its concern, offering this as an explanation for his consistent negativity.

Happily, there's one thing that's wrong on the page: the notation that his term expires in 2009. It does, of course, but the 71% majority victory he just won in the Republican primary over the party's sponsored candidate virtually guarantees he'll serve at least through 2011!

He is a member of the House. All terms for members of the HoR end in 2009.

Ha, Dr. Paul got a 0% grade for his votes from the past few years:

I guess that goes to show you what kind of philosophical leanings the creators of this web site have, not very Mises-friendly.

Claim to be non-partisan, but with a bleeding heart agenda that does not take the constitution into account

If you get the chance, read the descriptions of the various bills that the site supports. It is quickly obvious that these people never, ever consider that there might be unintended consequences to the government actions they support. Many, if not most, of the bills are wealth transfers of one kind or another. Any dissent MUST be a plot by rich people to impoverish the middle class.

Yeah, this should be called www.notaproducer.org - it seems like they only support stuff that favor tax recipients, not tax payers. RIDICULOUS!

Reading the actual bills is crucial. Alas, broken windows are everywhere.

Let's look at some of the legislation they have supported in this term of Congress:

"Fair" Minimum Wage Act of 2007
    CLEAN Energy Act of 2007
Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007
Employee "Free Choice" Act of 2007 (this piece of legislation actually would have eliminated the secret ballot for determining whether a business unionizes and as a result would have enabled unions to take away the Employee Free Choice not to unionize)
Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2007
Shareholder Vote on Executive Compensation Act of 2007 (one of the statistics today's socialists always cite is how CEOs are paid alot more than their employees)
College Cost Reduction Act of 2007
College Opportunity and Affordability Act of 2008
Emergency Extended Unemployment Insurance Compensation Act of 2008

Obviously, this organization is a partisan-Democrat organization which lacks the integrity to identify themselves as such.

It would be nice if there was a non-partisan libertarian website that would rate Congresscritters based on how pro-liberty their voting records are.
