  • The book is brilliant and thrilling...and yet it has some missteps, too many it seems to me. It is great but not core -- just a judgment.

  • The economic insight here is impressive and there are sections I've wanted to run, but remember that this was written in 1926, and I'm not sure that before the New Deal it was obvious to this generation that capitalism needed to be overtly defended against attacks. This was not a problem in his fiction works since the romance of the subject sweeps the reader along. but his nonfiction suffers just slightly from this issue and I do wonder if it would introduce confusion. For example, in this book there are passages that worry about the effect of technology on culture or some such, boilerplate that must have had a popular appeal but don't amount to much otherwise.

    In any case, watch this space because some wonderful new Garrett material is on the way.

  • the kirkpatrick work is interesting for someone like myself who's not particularly well-versed on objectivism. it's a good way to get a feel for rand in a tangential sort of way.

  • just finished ouroboros. best i can say about it is it's a quick read. i found myself disagreeing with most of the arguments raised.
