Control-freak politicians abhor gold because it ignores them; it won't do what it's told. It defies economists and laughs at central bankers.

  • This is an interesting article on two counts. Firstly it is a well written piece and describes the actual situation. Secondly I suspect it was inspired by Ron Paul's current campaign and yet gives no mention of him.

  • Great article! Isn't the Telegraph one of the more left-wing papers, or do I have it confused with another?

  • The Daily Telegraph is traditionally conservative, a.k.a. the Daily Torygraph. Left-leaning papers in the UK are the Guardian and the Independent.

  • Governments hate gold because it is a refuge from governmental depredations.

Unfortunately, government's response to this is going to be confiscation at some point. Government can't allow you to stay outside it's bonds forever.

  • One could do worse than by setting your standards to to the opposite of govt's. If they disapprove, then seek; if they hate, then acquire; if they exclude, then join. Perhaps one should join the counter-economy by trading in gold (and silver).

And Karen de Coster? Govt doesn't pay much attention. Perhaps more people should.
