Mises's book "America"?
Can someone let ABC News know that Mises didn't write a book called America? The book in question is called Liberalism. Still, it's nice to see him quoted.

Yeah, I thought that was really strange. I had no recollection of a book with that title!

Like Tupac Shakur and Murray Rothbard, Ludwig von Mises is one of the few scholars capable of posthumously writing new material.

Ha. Yeah, maybe they were trying to evoke the "bomb-throwing anarchist." Strange indeed.

That said, RP does have some odd supporters...

I emailed them when I saw it. I also asked the copy editor to remember that it is standard to refer to Mises as Mises and not "Von Mises" or "von Mises," and that the same goes for the institute. This error is usually a dead giveaway that the writer is unfamilar with the subject matter.

LMAO! I know. It is so hard to get away from the odd-balls these days. No matter what crowd i find myself mixing with, it always seems i'm the most normal person there - and that can't be good! :)

I thought it was very close to miraculous that the msm should be quoting from Mises's Liberalism in the first place. I guess it was their heroic attempt to support the argument that Paul doesn't belong with the Republican Party, given that Paul does not share the Republican aim of "full government control of all activities of the individual".

Maybe the news site was afraid people would go dig deeper into Mises' work. Can't have that, now can we? ;)

Anthony and Paul Edwards seem bursting with a censored enthusiasm regarding the desire to explain how Ron Paul supporters are "odd."
Assuming average donation of $50, I think averaging out $5,000,000 will be a bit of a chore.

Dear fellow Miseans,
Forgive me. My first reaction was to be excited that the name 'Mises' had emerged from obscurity. All of your points made about the belittling tactics were probably true and not coincidental, but I am ever the optimist.
Once the crack opens and the light begins to shine in the whole dynamic changes! Not unlike the trickle of the Ron Paul message of liberty that has not only turned into a river but it has the potential to become a tsunami!

Perhaps they called the book "America" instead of "Liberalism" because they didn't want to mention that what is called "Liberalism" today is not true Liberalism, but is actually Social Democracy, which is a form of Socialism.

Hmm. Conspiracy theory: The book "America" by Mises is "unavailable" on Mises.org. It's true, I searched for it.
Jeffrey, What else are you hiding from us? ;-)

It is not just "nice to see him quoted," it is awesome and equally awesome is the link to the Mises Institute. I would like to hear Ron Paul discuss Mises and Austrian economics more along the campaign trail as people are yearning for information and would I am sure like to know where it is he gained his deep understanding of the issues.

I hate to have to mention this to all the RP supporters out there but I'm not so sure he's as well-grounded in (Misesian) Austrian economics as they'd wish. I agree that he's been a consistent voice of integrity on many matters, including "sound money." But I also note that he has (or had--I don't know about recently) been close to the Real Bills Doctrine people with whom Blumert had to contend (successfully, I believe) not all that long ago.

Gene, you can read about the influence Austrian economics has had on Ron Paul in his own words here: http://mises.org/books/paulmises.pdf

Dear Mike,
Thank you for mentioning the book "Mises and Austrian Economics" by Ron Paul. I read it many years ago (1985) and that is when I found out about Ron Paul.
Even though there are many Austrian economics scholars, and each is contributing to the advancement of liberty, there are none more dedicated, sincere, principled, or active than Ron Paul.
