Hazlitt's Book on Inflation

April 4, 2007 10:53 AM by Mises.org Updates (Archive)

After World War Two, the most prominent fighter against inflation was an economic journalist named Henry Hazlitt. He was a student of Mises's, and not a monetarist but an Austrian. And his writings where everywhere: Newsweek, Reader's Digest, newspapers of all sorts, and his monographs were too. He called not for stabilization but a complete end to the paper dollar and central banking.

What You Should Know About Inflation is a collection of his greatest and most informative editorials on the subject of inflation. He covers economics, and also morality, in the context of four presidential administrations. As always, his prose is effortless and crystal clear.

This is the first time I have read this- a very thorough discussion.

One thing that did catch my eye was the mention of a Federal Reserve governor, from the fifties I think, named Allan Sproul. I was wondering if there were any relation to our own frequent commenter, Mike Sproul.
