War on Liquor Not Working

According to the NYT: "Despite the military’s ban on all alcoholic beverages [in Iraq and Afghanistan] — and strict Islamic prohibitions against drinking and drug use — liquor is cheap and ever easier to find for soldiers looking to self-medicate the effects of combat stress, depression or the frustrations of extended deployments, said military defense lawyers, commanders and doctors who treat soldiers’ emotional problems....

    The big message is:
    Prohibitions DO NOT WORK!!!!
    They only make criminals and sinners out of otherwise law abiding citizens.

    The prohibition against alcohol has not worked for Islam in for 1500 years as seen in the fact that a lot of these soldiers purchased moonshine off of IRAQI ARMY personnel.

    And it isn't working for US soldiers who come from places dripping in alcohol to a place with none.

    Prohibition or no, I'll bet the jihadis never touch the stuff. This is another example of people looking for external excuses for bad behavior.
