Mises Institute Print on Demand

February 5, 2007 12:36 PM by Jeffrey Tucker | Other posts by Jeffrey Tucker | Comments (8)

Since we started to make available excellent quality PDFs of Austrian and libertarian classics, we've been inundated with the question: how can I get a print copy? Our answer until now has been: print it out and have it bound by your local printer.

But that solution is obviously unwieldy.

To make a long story short, the answer is here: Mises Print on Demand.

You will notice that it is a different storefront. This is an excellent print-on-demand service that preserves the high-quality scan that we did in house. We've designed new covers and reformatted them for print, and the result is nothing short of dazzling. It's like some sort of time machine: these great books are suddenly appearing before our eyes, in wonderfully bound editions.

The service itself prints to order, with a 3-5 day turnaround. So it takes a few days longer than our regular store, but the quality is truly exceptional. Using traditional print methods would be impossible if we tried to bring all these back but the technology makes it happen.

So here you will find books by Nock, Flynn, Schumpeter, that great Tamedly study that was talked about so much on this blog, Robbins, Heilperin, Chodorov, Hazlitt (his novel!), and much more, 22 books to start with and many more to come.

We hope you enjoy the pleasure of seeing all these rare books back in print. We certainly have enjoyed the process of making it possible!

  • Jeffery,

Thanks very much. I take it I was not the only person asking for this.

I found a used copy of the Tamedly book, but there are so many others to choose from, where to start?

  • I've used Lulu.com before for printing and can vouch for the quality of the product. Nice job by the Mises institute to get these books back in print, one way or another.

  • "Governments killed at least 170 million of their own people in the twentieth century, and countless more through war. That was a catastrophe for humanity. It will be again if we follow the path Richard Posner has laid out for us."

Exactly. This is fact. It has happened. It is proven. Not some theory about what might happen 100 years from now like "global warming". Governments are very very capable of killing people and wasting vast amounts of human productivity. Even the free ones. So what is his solution to avoid this disaster. It doesn't even show up on his radar, but all the other "solutions" require more government. What a slap in the face to those millions who have died from real disasters instead of pretend ones.

  • While I am currently an employee of Lulu, the following is my personal opinion.

I was very pleased when I learned of how you were using Lulu. I personally believe Lulu is an excellent example of how a free and open marketplace benefits all involved. So I think it is most appropriate to see you embracing it. Keep up the good work.
