Mises's Mother Adele Remembers Her Life

Mrs. Adele Mises, mother of Ludwig von Mises, dictated her reminiscences to a relative around 1929. Born in 1858, she was a granddaughter of Moses Kallir, grandniece of Mayer Kallir, prominent citizens of Brody, a city then in Austrian Galicia, now in Ukraine. "The memories of my youth all relate to charitable activities. They occupied our parents' lives so completely that we children naturally became involved with them as well from an early age."
