Introducing Mises Chat

February 20, 2006 10:57 PM by David Veksler (Archive)

Have you ever read a shocking post on the Mises Blog and wished that you could vent your anger and frustration somewhere? Well, you need to take a deep breath and consider taking anger management classes. But if you are interested in having serious intellectual discussions with fellow Misesians, the new Mises Chat is for you. Take a look and share your thoughts.

The chat can be syndicated on other sites by linking to http://mises.org/chat/feed.php, for example, with:

<iframe src="http://mises.org/chat/feed.php" frameborder="0" height="100" scrolling="no" width="220"></iframe>

If you are interested in more chat feeds, let me know.

I usually regret putting in a normal comment about a micro-second after hitting the "post" button, so I think I'll just leave chat to the experts.

Is there anything that mises.org cannot do?

it's been almost 10 years since I've last chatted on the internet, mostly because nobody wanted to have deep discussions about economics, anarcho-capitalism, history, imputation, marginal utility and so on, with me ;-)

guess that problem's just been solved

It will be up to users to keep the discussion productive (stop laughing).

Just wait until we start getting trolls.

chat feature request: a way to toggle all the administrative messages ("* MisesianN disconnected"). These messages sometimes swamp the actual conversation. Most of the time I don't even want to see them.

That feature is already built-in. It just needs to be enabled.

Does Mises Chat simply constitute a web interface to an IRC server+channel? If so, what is it? The web interface won't load properly in Camino, and I'd prefer to use irssi anyway.

It is a stand-alone client running on the Mises.org interface. Yesterday seemed to go well. Hope it is useful!
