  Knowing that the bandwidth requirements of Mises.org are rather high, as a net-geek I'm quite curious about those sort of things actually, have you considered taking the most popular (and/or largest) and creating a bittorrent pool?
  

  It certainly would be cheaper, in bits per second, than several people streaming just a single video at once, and it's not time sensitive unlike streaming media. Just a thought.

  You can still see it with Linux perfectly if you download the win32 codecs (the DLLs). That should enable mplayer (and others) to work with windows media.

  I can't access the file with that link, and when I try to 'save target as' I get a 'connection to the server cannot be established' error. What gives?

  What Curt says, and use the xiph.org codecs (Vorbis for audio, Theora for video), which don't require anyone breaking any laws, and provide better quality in less space than wmv.

  Did someone invoke Xiph.org? I've been involved with them for almost five years, on and off, as a volunteer. It's a nice group of people and the software is great. The media server, icecast, has improved a lot recently and can stream several formats now, including Ogg Speex, a codec designed specifically for voice (as opposed to MP3/AAC/WMA/Vorbis which are for general audio and music) so you get extremely low bitrate. It's also used in several VoIP applications these days.

  Yes; I've been transcoding many of the mises.org audio lectures to wideband Speex, with good results, making files about 1/5th the size of the original mp3 (narrowband (8kHz) sounds just awful, but wideband (16kHz) sounds fine, even transcoded from mp3; could probably make smaller files if I had the original audio, not lossy mp3).

  (I've also transcoded many (non-mises) videos to Theora, but there are more obvious visible compression artifacts in transcoded video)

  FWIW II: York University Student Television transmits live on the web in Theora format.

  What is going on here? I am currently in Guatemala. I use a German laptop from the past century and none of the software has been updated since 1999. I am linked to the hotel's ínternet provider. And - I have had no problems at all to download and enjoy the fascinating presentation by Rothbard.

  I use Windows that was put on my past-century laptop in 1999 in Brazil. I think it is the 1998 edition. For the past couple of years I have hardly used the old machine. And it was only because I would spend two months in Guatemala that I re-activated the Methusalem. Therefore, my surprise because this thing works like a F1 car.

  Finally an actual comment on the content of the file. Great! Rothbard's sense of humor alone makes what seem dry subjects come to life.

  Are there many more of these Rothbard audio & video files still to come, or is the supply now just about exhausted? The ones that have been posted on Mises media in recent weeks have been so brilliant that I really hope there will be many more to come.
