Richard Cantillon was the first person to invent economic method and to provide a theoretical model for understanding the economy, but his contributions have never been fully appreciated, until now, the 250th anniversary of the publication of his Essay on the Nature of Commerce in General. Here I write about Cantillon's astounding insights into economic science and their impact on the world. The archived audio and video versions of this lecture are available in Mises.org's extensive online media database.
