Ault says that the outcome of elections is determined by incumbency. While incumbency may be an accurate predictor of the outcomes, elections are truly determined, in a causal sense, by voter preference. Voter preference can explain the continual election of incumbents because most voters are rather dogmatic about their political views, and don't change them between elections.

Though I am no democrat, I don't think we're "disenfranchised".
