So Much for the Sales Tax
Big loss for sales tax supporters in Washington State, with a 1% increase for education (oh sure) rejected by 60% of voters. Other races around the country suggest that some smaller tax increase attempts passed and some failed. But the big story is what happened to GOP reps. who promoted the National Sales Tax. As Kudlow notes, "Every Republican talking about it got whacked on the head – even though Jim DeMint recovered to win in South Carolina. But Americans don’t want an onerous sales-tax charge on every good and service they buy. It is very unpopular."

For the Washington Sales Tax, all I can say is "Thank God."
I live in Seattle amidst a sea of liberals. Fortunately this was a state issue and enough people saw through it (why are we always asked to raise taxes for education?).
Unfortunately, every other state/local initiative was voted in the wrong direction by at least a 10% margin
(slot machines, voting primary, charter schools, monorail recall, etc...).
Also, and I believe I speak for everyone here, thank God (or whomever you choose) that all of the political ads are over and that the quadrennial politicians have all retreated from their street corners and are slowly taking down their yard propaganda.

People are merely feed up with state sanctioned theft! Here in Memphis, Tennessee, there was a referendum on the ballot for a priviledge tax for anyone working inside the city limit to be deducted from thier payroll. It was defeated resoundly. This coming from what I consider one of the most heavily communinst parts of the country!
