Democracy at Work
Michael Badnarik, the Libertarian candidate for President, and David Cobb, the Green Party candidate for President, were arrested today for attempting to serve papers to the Commission on Presidential Debates, when they tried to get through a barricade. Two previous attempts to serve the CPD with the papers were thwarted by guards in a clearly criminal attempt at evasion. The CPD masquarades as a "non-partisan" non-profit organization, but it is really criminally using taxpayer money to support certain candidates (Bush and Kerry). .

Mike Badnarik and the LP will get their day in Court tomorrow, 10/12 in Maricopa County. At issue is the exclusion of Mike from the CPD event at ASU on Wed., 10/13.
The AZ LP filed suit to stop the event claiming that the AZ state constitution prohibits donations of taxpayer money to corporations like the CPD. LP attorney, David Euchner stated "when legitimate candidates whose names appear on the AZ ballot are excluded, the only word for it is "campaign commercial"". Only Bush, Kerry and Badnarik are on in AZ.
Perhaps I am naive to hope that he will actually get to debate Bush and Kerry. But, can you imagine the fiery exchange would take place? He is more than ready to take them on.
Or perhaps, Mike can get just get taken to jail again.....but this time with better press coverage. Stay tuned!

Art Bell interviewed Badnarik by phone on his late-night radio show "Coast to Coast AM" over this past weekend. Art is probably the world's biggest enthusiast for UFOs and the paranormal, but he also confessed that he is a member of the Libertarian Party. See www.coasttocoastam.com/guests/800.html.
My favorite part of the interview was this (quoted from memory):
BELL: You're a candidate for President of the United States ... does that mean you get a security detail to protect you?
BADNARIK: No - but why would I need protection? I haven't been trampling on anyone's rights.

Oh, the irony! I listened to the debate on Friday night and placed a "Badnarik for President" sticker on my car yesterday.

I can only wish for such an electoral choice (being a Canadian).
I just tuned in briefly to tonight's 3rd and final presidential debate and felt like puking. Bush was responding to questions about job outsourcing by emphasizing how much federal pork is going to be spent in order to "provide jobs for the 21st century". The poor, pathetic imbecile really has no idea that it is the very existence of this federal taxation and spending, in order to "protect" Americans, is the very thing which is driving the jobs overseas.
