The case of Sam Dodson, now in jail for wanting to record court proceedings, moved to New Hampshire as part of the free-state project. This audio recording provides an alarming portrait of the banality of everyday authoritarianism. More here.

Thank you for posting about this.
I’d hate to think that such blatant display of aggression and violence is considered banal these days, but thanks, indeed, for helping to make this atrocity more publicly known!
I’m surprised this got on mises.org before LewRockwell. The man’s been in jail for two weeks without a trial and he’s had a writ of habeas corpus denied. Bail was posted at the absurd amount of $10,000. All of this for recording in a public courtroom LOBBY after he was told to shut down his camera because of an unsigned, unlawful (NH state law, NH state constitution) “order” that was tacked to the bulletin board. Absurd!! Thanks for spreading tho word.
Outrageous. How is it that one can be imprisoned for exercising first amendment rights?
Free Sam Dodson is now the #1 story on Nolan Chart http://www.nolanchart.com/article6330.html
I thought Guantanamo was the only place the government could hold prisoners without due process.
Free State Project!
Keep posting news from NH!
Thanks for covering Sam, but the story is much bigger than this. Sam is the second person arrested for having a camera in the court lobby. His arrest took place at the arraignment for the first man arrested, Dave Ridley. Video: http://freekeene.com/2009/03/04/alternate-footage-of-dave-ridleys-arrest/
Also, minutes after Sam’s arrest, six other liberty activists were arrested for standing in the court lobby. Video: http://freekeene.com/2009/04/13/live-footage-of-activists-arrests/
Martin Armstrong was also imprisoned without a trial http://www.contrahour.com/contrahour/
Thanks for posting this. BTW, the Free State Project website is here, http://freestateproject.com/
Jeffrey, thank you for blogging about this ridiculous arrest. It’s quite silly what lengths Eli Rivera and other NH prosecuters have gone to arrest completely innocent, honest, just and peaceful activists.
I was not there that day but apparently Eli called for backup officers from sorrounding towns and even some of the police officers were a bit curious and reluctant to arrest the videographers.
Thank you for posting this, Jeffrey.
@Liberty Tiger,
“I thought Guantanamo was the only place the government could hold prisoners without due process.”
There is a third place where people are held without due process and this is the psychiatric ward !
You can be escorted there by police officers for simple things like getting into an argument with members of your family or only on word of mouth from other people.
Psychiatry is the biggest risk to individuals because anytime you are involved with the law, authorities can decide to psychiatrize you indefinitely instead of just letting you do your time.
