Quick, new button campaign: BAB!
“Boycott All Bacon!”
“Next, WIN buttons”.
I am sure the specific saying will be different, but given the unprecedented growth in the monetary base engineered by the Federal Reserve over the past several months, 1970s-like inflation may very well become a reality in the not-too-distant future. Every crisis needs a moronic, government-created slogan.
All we need now is a headline from Newsweek that the earth is cooling.
New ice age coming, acid rain, ozone layer depleting, killer bees from South America in your backyard, deforestation, Y2K. Then we can start over again, global warming, mad cow disease, bird flu pandemic coming, swine flu.
I know I’m forgetting some expert foretold disasters that didn’t materialize. It seems we have a never ending parade of disasters ready to strike….but wait….the gov’t is here to stop it from happening, just hand over your money.
Boys at the CDC playing games again? “Oops! Another virus we created got loose again. Oh dearie me.”
If its the 70s all over again, then your fashion predictions are wrong. Global Cooling is back again, although the elites haven’t admitted it yet.
Considering the relative success of the libertarian movement in the 1970s (the LP still hasn’t matched its 1980 vote total, a year in which the voters elected a Republican who pretended to be a libertarian while co-opting the libertarian sentiment), I say bring back the 70s! Maybe this time, there won’t be a Ronald Reagan to save big government in the name of limited government. Maybe this time, statism will come to an end.
In fact, if you look at opinion polls, the general public is probably the most libertarian that they’ve been since the 1970s (if not even more libertarian). If the 2010s are like the 1970s, then maybe the final collapse of statism is coming.
You quote Carter, but for that there’s also the bird flu and J.E. epidemic in recent memory.
Brad- “maybe the final collapse of statism is coming.”
Unfortunately not in our lifetime…
Didn’t I see on TV a few days ago something regarding scientists concerned with the lack of sunspots, i.e., the sun is err uh not doing what we think it should? I like chicken little’s response the best.
Swine flu? Should the politicians in Washington be particularly worried?
See this all part of Obama’s plan to stop pork barrel spending. Now he will finally be able to cut the 100 million out of the budget. Now what do we do with the rest of the trillions of dollars, that are the remains.
In the 1970″s a strain of “tagged Flu” was released into the subway system of the City of New York by the government to test the medical defenses of the country against a pandemic. This came to be known as the Swine Flu. People were instructed by the CDC to get a vaccine which amazingly was available before the outbreak. Panic replaced reason and some stood for hours and hours on line to get the vaccine which had side effects worse than the disease. History repeats itself. Beware!
