I’m not positive, but I think there’s also one in Brazil.

It looks very good and though I don’t want to throw oil on the fire, a short introduction in French would perhaps be appropriate and effective too, especially given the fact that real free market thinking (we’re not talking about the Belgian French “MR” party that puts von Mises as main influence on his site… to deceive better the voters) needs even more advocacy among French speaking Belgians …

These are (indeed) obviously the good guys. Their seminars are imho a real contribution to/reflection of the spirit of MNR in the Dutch/Flemish language.

While I’m sure Rothbard would be happy to see his works being translated, I have to wonder about what his views would’ve been on it being within an institution, after watching what happened to Cato.

Won’t the Kochtopus et al. come after this abstraction in order to defile it, as well? After all, there is a donation page, so the MRI is already seeking sustenance from philanthropist types.

As a follower of Rothbard, nothing would sadden me more than to watch “his” institute over time become the tool of his white-washing, or worse, to become the object of ridicule, in order to taint the validity of the value of human liberty. (like the Ron Paul “kook” character-assassination media frenzy)

While I have no doubts as to the integrity of the founders of this institution (nor the value of their work), they are mere mortals, and will be replaced in time with others, as the abstraction known as MRI lives on in perpetuity. Until the day arrives to slay it, that is. Problem is, just like with Cato, we will find that by then it has grown out of our reach.

We create these golems at our own peril. They are truly double-edged swords of potentially infinite length.

I’d appreciate anyone who can point me to Rothbard’s own words on the subject.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for all the comments, we’ll take them on board!

Integrity is indeed an important issue. With ideas like these, it can become very tempting to ‘soften’ them a little so as to achieve more results in the short term. This is something we talk about a lot.

I’d be interested to hear if people had more thoughts on the questions of “(8?»”.

I’m just a member of the MRI, so I can’t speak for the intentions of the board, but it’s my firm believe that the MRI has taken upon itself the task of spreading the thoughts of libertarianism similar to the Mises Institute, through the use of blogs, newsletters and books who are – just like with the Mises Institute – available in pdf format on the website. I also don’t really have the feeling they want to become lobbiests. So I don’t think we have to worry about it that much.

Needless to say: they refuse _any_ kind of governmentsupport.
