Now if only the Federal Government would follow suit. I can think of at least a few specific positions that should be axed…
I began to read the comments section after the article and was dismayed to find that a number of people think of these cutbacks as being racist. Several commented that the “rich folk’s” golf course should be closed.
As much as I don’t think the city should be running golf courses, at least the golf courses are generating income.
As for places where children can go…why can’t they simply use the facilities that are already available to them at their respective schools. Don’t these schools have playgrounds and basketball courts? Why must separate facilities exist. That seems like a duplication of effort and expenses to me.

Here are some links that show what is happening here in utah. Some taxes are going up like the fees to register cars. I wish they would get it over and simply cut the budget to public education all together.

We really need a recession. Hopefully we will clean house enough to eventually start a sustainable growth that isn’t completely funded off debt.
I’m curious! What is the criteria used to terminate employment in the government?
Since there are no real prices (only an artificial mimicing of market prices for some of the socialized services) the criteria are arbitrary, political and really just a type of corruption.
Why not eliminate the highest paying jobs first? Corruption is by nature heaviest at the top and so the cuts do not occur there!
The most bloated of the blood-sucking ticks remain attached to the weakened host. Let’s touch them with the hot matchhead of classical liberalism and watch them fall to the ground. Who will be the first to step on them and pop these parasites?
This sucks for the people that use the rec centres.
Because of gov’t action they were effectively “forced” to use the state rec centres. Why?
Well the tax-financed ones effectively crowded private rec centres out of the market.
And now because of this, they don’t have a rec centre at all (for the time being–until a private one is built).

If Atlanta could print its own currency, they would be building more rec centers, to “create jobs,” instead of closing them.

Simple solution: have Atlanta sell the rec centers to anyone who thinks they can make them profitable in poor neighborhoods.
Freddie and Fannie can loan them the $$ to buy the property and make it a business. Put those Bernanke injections to work! : )
