Here is a promising independent project: SpokenMises.org. It takes selected material from Mises.org and runs it through a computerized voice. Not perfect but very promising!

Looks interesting. Though I still prefer Dr. Lilley’s voice.
Have you tried Odiogo.com I like their quality?
Quality is nice, but odiogo is a commercial service – i.e. it adds some kind of commercials inside the text and afaik it requires two things: all articles to be available through RSS and RSS should include the whole content of an article, not just the description.
Nevertheless, I’m trying to get a better quality voice for http://spokenmises.org
Cool technology, but I prefer a human voice with more emotion.
On that note, could I volunteer my time to record some items for Mises.org? I’ve looked into volunteering to read for the blind, but the only organization I’ve found for doing so in the Baltimore/DC area is tax-funded, so I choose not to give them my time.
They also make it very difficult for one to volunteer. It’s in downtown DC, and they want you to commit to two hours a week before 7 PM. Anyone who lives and works in this area knows that unless you work downtown it’s nigh unto impossible to get anywhere near downtown by 7 PM if you work until 5 PM. Typical.
In either case, I’d be very interested in helping out, if someone would care to let me know how I could go about doing so.
Well I am using their services for the last 4-5 months and other than “This article is brought to you by Odiogo.com, the web read to you”, I haven’t heard a single ad.
