Honesty and the state

October 2, 2007 by

The blog A Soviet Poster a Day offers a different poster from the Soviet Union on an almost daily basis, with a little history and explanation for each one (note: the politics of the blog are not libertarian).

My favorite is How to raise a child like Lenin: Don’t you lie – ever! The stern yet beautiful teacher instructs her remorseful student in the virtues of the state: the politicians and their apparatus. The blogger, Alexander Zakharov, writes, “The message was quite clear – Soviet leaders are the most honest and sincere people of the world and every Soviet child should do his best to be like them.”

Hey, wait a second! Drop Soviet for American and you have the very same thing being taught everyday in public schools. Some strands of indoctrination never seem to go out of style.

“Hey, wait a second! Drop Soviet for American and you have the very same thing being taught everyday in public schools.”

The difference b/w the USSA and USSR is that USSR implemented all 10 planks of communism, whereas the USSA only implemented ~9.

Everytime I hear someone saying that this or that society today is capitalism makes me want to slap them upside the head. Capitalism is long dead and buried since WWI, all we have is classic mercantilism (national and international).

Speaking of posters and honesty, I ran across one by the Home Office (UK gov’t department) the other day with “Thieves work office hours too.” written on it. Ironic, no? One would think they’d try hide that bit of their job description.

Look, brainwashing the masses to be your good little slaves has been the primary tool of those in power for thousands (tens of thousands?) of years. Just because our current un-elected power mongers are doing the same thing, while sad, isn’t to be unexpected.

But, yes, it does piss me off that the masses can’t educate themselves enough to see through the sham.
