Chat is Back

September 27, 2007 by

Not to tempt you with what is surely the most time expensive and largely unproductive activity you can do on the www, and not to take you away from reading and commenting, and, most importantly, thinking, but nonetheless, I must announce that chat is back.

The problem with the chat before was that it required users to allow scripts in order to use it. Most people don’t know how to do that, or are too lazy for that.

Is the chat based on IRC? I wouldn’t mind hanging out in the chat so long as I don’t have to keep a browser window open, or keep checking on it. If it is IRC based, then is there a public IRC server which I can point my client to?

@Isaac: the old chat wasn’t IRC based AFAICT, so I don’t think the new one is. It is definitely useful, though, as I’d much rather keep X-Chat open all the time than the browser.
