Capitalism: The Core of Freedom

April 12, 2007 by

You will enjoy this funny propaganda film from 1948. Not bad overall! At least it is pro-production and pro-consumption, and anti-regimentation. Nothing on the Marshall Plan. A bit soft on labor, and the “right vote” etc. And, umm, the state is the supreme court in the US too. And yet one wonders whether the whole point of this was to prepare the way for the central planning scheme called the Cold War. (Thanks Reason)

I remember a Warner Brothers Looney Tune cartoon entitled “Yankee Dood It”. It starred Elmer Fudd as a shoemaker elf who explained to the shoemaker the merits of capitalism. Unfortunately, can’t seem to find it online, other than by digging it out of some massive looney tunes torrent.

Thanks for putting the video up.

Could you imagine the furor today if they put a segment in a modern cartoon extolling the virtues of capitalism. The N.E.A. would have a meltdown.
