Industrial Media

January 28, 2007 by

While we’re revisiting the Industrial Revolution and the distortions of its historians, let me recommend Ralph Raico’s talk on the subject from the 2001 Mises University (MP3).

Also, in Robert LeFevre’s talks on the fear of a free market, he spends 4 sessions reviewing the Industrial Revolution: part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4 (also all MP3).

Burton W. Folsom, Jr. instantly comes to mind with his “The Industrial Revolution and Free Trade” and his other books, as well as the works of R.M. Hartwell.
“How the West Grew Rich”, “The Wealth Creators”, “Capitalism the Creator” (a book which I recommend for other reasons as well–his “techtonics” is a nice handle on the energy theory ideas that libertarians were running with in the 1920′s-50′s) by Carl Snyder.

I’ve rather liked the work that Folsom has been coming up with over the years. It should most likely be linked to. Hartwell, of course is a “master historian” on such subjects as industrial revolution, and his books should be required.

Cheers!

Don’t forget Raico’s wonderful “History: The Struggle for Liberty” series of ten lectures! Some of my favorites. The sixth lecture is about the myth of the immiseration of the working class during the industral revolution, the seventh is more on the anti-capitalist mentality.
