It’s the STATE DEPARTMENT that used Google instead of the CIA, having found the CIA reluctant to divulge what they’re paid to find out (see article). Our tax dollars at work – against each other – that’s why we have to pay so many of them in.
Much, if not most, intelligence work is in fact going over reams and reams of publicly available information – and spotting the nuggets that bear on the mission, whatever it is. Real intelligence work is drudgery, as those who have used Google to find out anything very specific or obscure know. But it’s usually the best and easiest for most of us, even in those (drudgery) cases.
Suggested business model:
1. Contract with CIA to provide them with mountains of information.
2. Get paid $$$$
3. Search Google, submit results to CIA
4. Repeat until retirement.
