For what it’s worth, here is my review of Jim Powell’s new book Bully Boy: The Truth about Theodore Roosevelt’s Legacy.

Mark Twain was right when observing that Teddy Roosevelt was “clearly insane.” What few people seem to realize is that Roosevelt is hardly alone when it comes to mentally unbalanced presidents.
The 20th century provides a litany of executives who suffered from assorted pathologies. Wilson was truly delusional. Nixon’s paranoia was his downfall. Clinton is a textbook sociopath. I even read in a biography of Eisenhower that he never dressed himself. His aide even put the man’s underwear on! Too weird for words.
One thing is clear: only the most peculiar among us would see themselves fit to rule over millions of people. Normal people want nothing to do with politics.
I loved the part about Teddy’s pathetic whining “I want a Medal of Honor!!! I want a Medal of Honor!!” for his “fighting” experience in Cuba. What an overgrown spoiled child he was.
It reminded me of Bill Clinton’s pathetic, egotistical worries over his “legacy” as his term neared its end.
Could someone dig up Thomas Jefferson, please?
This Teddy Roosevelt creature really was an evil man. He exalted in violence and war. He revelled in creating pain and suffering for other people. But in the end he paid for some of it.
This stupid wee man sent his son to the trenches in WW1. There his son died a terrible death. The blow to Teddy Roosevelt was immense. He suffered. He wrote about how this incident caused him to realise that what he had promoted and belived in was worthles; wrong. Too late. Too late for his son. Too late for those he’d injured. Too late for him.
At least he suffered some punishment for his wrongs. He died a sad wreck.
