No matter which politician wins, we lose

November 8, 2006 by

Like clockwork, The Onion has a poignant article that summarizes the reality of the situation: “politicians were the big winners in Tuesday’s midterm election.” And in the words of a fake officeholder, “It’s a good night to be a politician.”

Perhaps H.L. Mencken said it best however, “every election is a sort of advance auction sale of stolen goods.”

There’s a factual error in that factual onion article. It states “politicians reportedly exceeded even their own expectations, gaining an impressive 100 percent of the overall national vote.” Actually the majority of people stayed home. No politician got my vote, or my wife’s. Unfortunately we don’t count these votes, or the politicians would lose and we could leave the offices empty, as I desire, and as I voted. And then there’s my friend Adam Dada, who voted for someone who was not a politician: himself. :)
