Mor IP law “abuse”: NFL Player Sends Mom Cease and Desist Letter for Using His Likeness

November 3, 2006 by

From Law.com:

Mina Brees, a shareholder in Austin’s Munsch Hardt Kopf & Harr and Democratic candidate for Place 5 on the 3rd Court of Appeals in Austin, Texas, may have dropped the ball when she used the name and likeness of her son, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, in a television commercial for her campaign. In an Oct. 20 letter, CCA Sports, which represents Drew Brees, demanded that his mother cease and desist mentioning the NFL player in her TV spot.

I wonder when people are going to stop pointing to such things as “abuses” of IP and realize that it’s endemic to it?

“I wonder when people are going to stop pointing to such things as “abuses” of IP and realize that it’s endemic to it?”

Institutions like IP, many others, including, for example, the Federal Reserve, are ones that a great many of us are heavily Invested in. The Capital subsumed in their cteation, and consumed by their continuation, the “buy-in”, is, Great and Dear.

The Hard Currency of Freedom: the Liberty for Truth, and The Truth of Liberty, that purchases a Path from these rending Cognitive Dissonances(IP, FedRes, et al.), is seldom Coined, and ever less frequently Circulated.

We face the same dilemma with these Institutions as we do with our Macro-Finance picture–Much of these historical “Investments” have to be written-off. Our Future, then, seemingly (re-)burdened by the effort to adjust, will, rather, be unbounded, Free, for our writing on it.
