Thank you. This comes at a particularly handy time for me; I’m writing a paper on class conflict.
Should be required reading for all collegiate conservatives and young Republicans.
Actually, this ought to be required reading for all students, not just the conservative ones.
“Required Reading”? Only if it can be “required” in a completely non-coercive way.
What does he mean by, “… Mr. Farley’s activities in the local campaigns of 1934″ ?
“A rigged convention is one with the other man’s delegates in control.
An open convention is when your delegates are in control.”
James A. Farley
was the DNC chairman under FDR and handled the patronage. He brought us
the concept of the Farley
File, where a politician would keep notes on everyone he met. And what
they were promised.
Time has a couple stories about Farley in his role as Postmaster General. One
about
redrawing the airmail routes, and the other about an
accounting gimmick to show a Post Office surplus.
Hmm. There’s a copy of his autobiography for sale on ebay for a couple more days.
I don’t know the specific incident to which Nock refers, but I imagine it has something to do with graft and patronage. Perhaps Namebase could help if you want to research Farley, it gives links between Farley and other people.

I don’t know the event to which Nock refers, but if you are going to do a little
research, Namebase
might be useful with its list of people linked to Farley.
[Apologies if this ends up being a duplicate post -- I figure after half a day, the original isn't going to make it]
Yes you guys are catching on …now you understand why they want to soften his legacy by attaching or trying to replace his name on the GPO with that of G rated Danny Moynihan.
Its funny How the DNC would canabalize the Legacy of the man who built their Party from squat, and helped to save the nation from the Depression. Yes Farley could be considered as a Corrupt politician in hind sight, but no more or less corrupt then Roosevelt, Farley was the last great Political Boss of NY, when he left for the cabinet so left the handouts of the District leaders, and the New Deal replaced them. Jim Farley was the New Deal. And Jim Farley used the Roman Catholic voting block to install FDR. When they Build Moynihan Station, and MSG dont Forget who congress named the building after, and who built the Western annex as Post Master General.
Not Danny Moynihan, but the KingMaker James A. Farley.

Presumably “required reading” means “required if you want to pass the course”, not “read it or someone will shoot you”.
