Attention: Video iPod Users

February 1, 2006 by

We’re currently testing a new video podcast (itpc://mises.org/videoRSS.aspx), which uses MP4 video files; and we would like some feedback (especially from those of you who use Macs and video iPods).

Try out the video podcast and let us know what you think.

These new MP4 files are not intended to replace the windows media video files currently in the media database. Once we get the bugs worked out, they’ll only supplement what is already available online.

The feed looks great in iTunes on the Mac.

The only (minor) thing is that incorrect file size is there before downloading a file. “The Current State of World Affairs” was listed as being 2 MB, (it is really 217.4 MB). I have not downloaded “Liberty and Economics” or “The Future…”. They are listed as 1,013.8 KB and 1,023.5 KB respectively.

The only reason I mention this is that for huge downloads like these it would be nice to know what you’re getting into before pressing the “GET” button.

This is a great idea. I just got an iPod and was looking into the pay sites for downloadable books for it. Unfortunately, the download sites are full of crap like The DaVinci Code instead of useful stuff like Rothbard and Mises.

The MP4 container format is by FAR superior to the WMV format in every respect. Not only is it technically superior (I won’t bore you with the details), but they can be viewed with mplayer and VLC, which are available on nearly every platform (even Amiga-based ones).

The problem is mises.org has yet to mirror these HUGE files on BitTorrent!

The feed looks good. However, I am not able to export the videos into my iPod even when I use the “conversion” tool in iTunes. I receive an “it cannot be played on this iPod” error in iTunes.

Many ways to make your ipod can play any video.
It is the best choice:iPod Video Converter can convert all video formats to the ipod player format.
