From the City of Auburn’s relief effort site: “Food donations (outside of restaurants) cannot be accepted because of FDA regulations.”

Having lived in Auburn for 13 years, it is very difficult to tell where the local government ends and where the Chamber of Commerce begins. Some nitwit in one Auburn’s hundreds of franchise restaurants probably suggested this FDA “rule”. I can find no such regulation on the FDA, FEMA, Americorp, or CDC’s websites.
Central Alabama counties and towns to my knowledge have no such restrictions. Send us your canned (old fashioned or tins) or capped containers of food, we’ll pass them along to the gathering Mississippians or displaced residents of New Orleans.

Once again proving that human lives simply aren’t important to the State.
