Random Mises Quote

By popular demand…

Hi there…

Apologies for this being irrelevant to the item I’m commenting on… but I wanted to put out a suggestion for the creation of a forum. There are many opensource and free BBS / forum programs out there, and hosting one might do a lot of good.

There is a lot of communication and networking that could go on here- but the real need for me is to be able to get help from fellow students and maybe some experts when I need to research something.

Sometimes I get into discussions with a co-worker who has an MA in Economics, and I am at a loss to defend my positions. I’ve had some good luck doing searches on the site and if Rothbard, Mises, or another have directly referenced the issue, this is great.

But to discuss and learn with others would be a great benefit.

If you want to create a membership program for donars to the Mises institute and keep posting priviledges to the forum exlcusive to them, that’s might keep the discussion less wild… but that’s just a suggestion.

Either way, if you do put up a forum, I’ll send in a $50 contribution to help cover costs and bandwidth.

Some software that might be good to consider:
http://www.vbulletin.com
http://www.ubbcentral.com
http://www.infopop.com

I can’t say which are better or worse, but I can say that I think the bandwidth costs would be much less than hosting video.

Even if this isn’t something you want to try, I still really appreciate the website, and the massive amounts of information.

The link on this post (“by popular demand”) is broken.

You know. Those “Random Quote” things, are interfering with my browser. Both Netscape and IE. The page is messed up, and the random quote, many times covers up the thing that’s suppost to be over it.

I guess, I don’t really see the point of them either. Not a fan.

Like your site. Keep up the good work.

(Note: I have deleted the rude comments about me that the comment below refers to. If you have concerns about my forum’s policies, you should address them there or on your own site. – David, the “moderator”)

Newbie Austrian,
I browse the Austrian Forum and find it to be both interesting and civil. I also know the moderator, and he’s done an awful lot of work just to give the rest of us someplace to meet and discuss. I’m not sure why you feel the need to throw in a gratuitous smear of him here. I urge you to try the forum before you go scaring other people away from it for no reason at all.

Interestingly, comments that were in no way rude were also deleted.

Is the Austrian Forum independent of the Mises Institute? Besides in this blog thread, I see no link to it on the Mises website.

The moderation staff of the forum and the blog are some of the same people and the Mises Institute hosts the forum on its servers. The forum is also the first link on the “Links” section of the blog page.
