Ludwig von Mises immigrated to the United States in 1940, a period of wartime economic planning in which production was planned, prices and wages controlled, and rationing dominated the consumer goods market. His writings against intervention thus became critically important, especially during the public debate concerning whether and to what extent these controls should be reduced following the war.
