Tsunami cash exceeds aid need

“The international medical relief agency Médecins sans Frontières is tracking down hundreds of thousands of donors worldwide to its Asian tsunami appeal and offering them their money back.” They received too much tsunami cash! (See also this older article on the same.) What was the reason behind all that government aid?

Didn’t you know the greatest form of charity is giving other people’s money?

As Frédéric Bastiat pointed out, the two great motivators of politicans and government administrators are greed and false philanthropy. False philanthropy – based on the idea that you can steal other people’s money for charitable purposes – is probably the most dangerous.
