Entrepreneur Charged With Tax Evasion:
WASHINGTON – Telecommunications entrepreneur Walter Anderson was arrested and charged with evading $200 million in federal and local taxes in what the government said was the largest criminal tax case ever against an individual in the United States.
[...]
“He was living the high life,” said the Internal Revenue Service commissioner, Mark Everson. “Because of his dishonest dealings, Mr. Anderson’s lavish life style was subsidized by honest, hardworking Americans.”
The report does not detail how Mr. Anderson fleeced money from these “honest, hardworking Americans” – but then again, he must have if, he didn’t pay his fair share.

Lets see according to the gov he is guilty. But like most of us just want to keep our money from being sucked down the rat hole of the us government.
fair taxes, according to whom and what is fair about 40 percent being sucked out? give me a break the crooks of the government blood suckers.
Tim,
One of the sad things about this whole mess is
that Walt Anderson has been one of the single
biggest investors in commercial space projects.
I met him just last October at a conference I
went to. He’s a nice guy, he just happens to
have a very low esteem of the hypocrites who
run the show in this country.
But of course the IRS has to have its big yearly
high-profile tax evasion case right before April
15th. I just hope that the evidence they have
against him isn’t as solid as they try to claim
right now. Maybe he’ll get off with just having
to pay a hefty fine or something. He’s an old
guy who’s done a heck of a lot of good for this
country, and giving him an 80 year sentance would
be the equivalence of a death sentance.
I wonder if he could come up with a bill for the
federal government for all the benefit they’ve
gotten out of him for free over his lifetime.
Jerks.

“He was living the high life,”
Oh, well shame on him. How dare he live lavishly on the wealth he has accumulated!?
“Because of his dishonest dealings, Mr. Anderson’s lavish life style was subsidized by honest, hardworking Americans.”
Much better than subsidizing the lazy, bloodsucking Americans that benefit from stolen income.
If anybody deserves to live well, it is men like Walter Anderson. May leviathan have mercy on your soul.
Keep in mind that if you hang out on the Mises site, you are in the company of people who actually know that the wealth of a country is not some finite pie that can only be divided so many ways among the citizens, and therefore when some get more others by necessity get less. This is a concept of the economy that a lot of people have. I think Walter Williams had a good analogy for it, saying that some people think of the economy as a pile of dollars that everyone rushes to grab, and whoever gets there first gets the most, while others get what’s left. If you think of it that way, this quote (and a lot of other stuff people spew about wealth, taxes and redistribution) makes a twisted kind of sense.
Apparently one of Anderson’s offshore banking aliases was “Prospero”: as in prosper! Shakespeare used it too.
In The Tempest … and it seems Anderson is indeed in the tempest!
This has been a informative read though! Thank you!
