Manuel F. Ayau, 1925-2010

We just received word that Manuel Fr. Ayau died yesterday. He is the founder of Universidad Francisco Marroquin, author of Not a Zero-Sum Game, and a dedicated Misesian fighter for truth. Lew Rockwell wrote about his fight for freedom here. His lasting legacy is a huge presence for Misesian ideas in Latin America and many excellent students all over the world. As Robert Higgs has written, “He was also a successful entrepreneur, an active participant in the public affairs of his country, and a dedicated champion of liberty there and throughout the wider world. The proud patriarch of a beautiful family, a warm friend to countless adherents of classical liberty, and man of tremendous energy and striking courage, he exemplifies the realization of the finest potential that human beings can achieve.”

What is the Mises Institute?

The Mises Institute is a non-profit organization that exists to promote teaching and research in the Austrian School of economics, individual freedom, honest history, and international peace, in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard.

Non-political, non-partisan, and non-PC, we advocate a radical shift in the intellectual climate, away from statism and toward a private property order. We believe that our foundational ideas are of permanent value, and oppose all efforts at compromise, sellout, and amalgamation of these ideas with fashionable political, cultural, and social doctrines inimical to their spirit.
