No surprise: Jobs surge in U.S. Capital

While 2,300+ pages worth of financial regulation just passed Congress that will provide the tools to, in the words of Henry Paulson, “help mitigate and manage the next financial crisis, which is inevitable, probably within the next six to 10 years,” Businessweek.com reports, “Washington is the only metropolitan area in which the number of advertised job vacancies in May (201,000) was greater than the number of unemployed (184,600), according to the Conference Board.”

There’s going to be a whole lot of regulating going on, by “ineffective bureaucracies,” as described by Alabama senator Richard Shelby and that takes warm bodies. So D.C., which already has a comparatively low unemployment rate of 6.2 percent, is the country’s boom town.

Coming in 2nd and 4th in the Businesweek.com list are the Texas towns of San Antonio and El Paso, which will benefit from expansions at Fort Sam Houston and Fort Bliss, respectively.

Union towns, Detroit, Las Vegas and Reno are at the bottom of the list.
