Mises.org has a wonderful development team. Each member has a specialization in one or another sector of the site.
Talking with some people over Thanksgiving, we’ve realized that we have everything in place except a person who specializes in design and the code behind the design (HTML/CSS). That requires some graphics capability but mostly a drive to implement changes and see them through to the point of completion.
One might think that this would be the most obvious person to have as an integral team member, but in the years we’ve been moving forward, we’ve put more energy into the content and infrastructure rather than the user experience, which is regrettable. We are trying to fix that now.
We would like to bring a person on for consulting work to do an overhaul of many aspects of the look and feel of the site. There are also some secret new projects we are working on. We don’t need a revolution but we need possibly one hundred small tweaks.

Some aspects of the job holder I would like to see:
- a good listener who can absorb the information we have and job description we give, and is willing to understand the tradeoffs of limitation and liberality;
- someone who doesn’t mind developing on a live site but is neither wildly reckless nor risk averse to the point of inaction;
- someone who works fast, thinks quickly, and communicates well through IM and email;
- someone who is disciplined enough to develop during work hours but doesn’t mind being variously bugged on nights and weekends;
- someone who understands what is it we are trying to do and has a notion of the needs and desires of the typical Mises.org user;
- someone who isn’t driven bonkers by working in a windows-based, dotnet environment.
