The Money Mattress

September 11, 2009 by

Wow, this is great: a wallet that looks like a mattress, complete with the “do not remove” tag! Supposedly you can buy it here, but the site seems to be stuck. Maybe we need these for Mises.org!

You crazies that are increasing your demand for money are helping to sink the economy. And remember, your money is not your property; the state can do what it wants with it. It is good that we have a knowledgeable central bank and fractional reserve banking to counteract the effects of this anti-social increase in the demand for money. Even some proponents of free banking see the light on this point.

Quite novel. The funniest part is the tag that says “Made in China”. Unfortunately even a mattress won’t protect fiat money from inflation. The recent Mises.org silver coins, on the other hand, would make perfect inhabitants.

I think it’d be great to have this in the mises.org store!

Quite comical…

Which will only increase the demand for real money that the government can’t “do what it wants with”, like gold!

The real problem is people who think the solution to a recession is to re-inflate the bubble with ill-considered spending. Malinvestment is the problem; more malinvestment will not be the solution.

The label brought a smirk to my face:

“Financial comfort…hecho in China

Great. I’m going to put some paper tissues in it. Maybe someday I can barter them for a glass of water on a hot summer day.

The website is working and full of hilarity, such as a video, “endorsements” from Greenspan and Madoff — as well as “economic advice” complete with graphs illustrating the “Flat Line Strategy (often abbreviated as Tactically Polemical Non-Vesting Fiduciary Actions).”
LOL!

U.S. dollar bills look bland and old-fashioned compared with Australian dollar bills:

It’s kind of funny but it doesn’t seem like it folds too well. I guess it’s a good gag gift.

@gil
yeah, they look as if they’ve been died in a money transport during a robbery.

I’m waiting for the times when they will decorate them with educational comics to make them more “valuable”

Responding to Dennis:

Your money is not your property, because it is in a bank. A regulator can impound your money with a financial lien.

My money is currency, in my house. It is my property, and you need a judicially authorized warrant to seize it.

I would also like to respond to the allegation that we crazies are helping to destroy the American economy. Speaking only for myself, I plead GUILTY AS CHARGED.

The American economy is a disgusting blend of statism, corporatism, and social welfarism. It is evil in the extreme, and it is my enemy.

Peace

This is very interesting. @Artisan: I never thought of American money being decorated with educational comics. It seems to be getting close, eh?
