Mises University Starts Today

July 26, 2009 by

It’s been the calm before the storm for several days at the Mises Institute. In a few hours, Mises University attendees start registering, then comes dinner, and then the first lecture, followed by a full week of morning-to-night seminars, lectures, panels, and sessions of many varieties, all designed to provide the richest possible intellectual experience in systematic education within the Austrian School tradition. This year, we decided to push the limits of our facilities and permit an attendance of 215, which exceeds any previous year. (Many more applications are received in the course of the year.)

Just so that it is clear, this is not just a conference of policy talks or a variety show on politics or theory or even a series of papers on particular research topics.. It is structured to provide a systematic presentation of theory with applications, from the first event to the last, with each lecture building on the last. In this sense, it is completely different from other “universities” being run by research institutes. We’ve been running this program for more than 20 years, and it has been the font of many vocations in the field of economics. Most everyone today currently teaching economics from an Austrian perspective at the university level has come through this program.

We will be broadcasting much of it live, on our US Stream channel. The full schedule is here.

As a Mises U. “graduate”,

Let me say that it is a very well-structured week. Content is great. Professors are knowledgeable and well-spoken. And I’ve definitely tried to do some recruiting to convince other people to go… (and I think the recruiting was somewhat successful, if I’m right).

Definitely highly recommended.

Fantastic, I can’t wait until the lectures are also available to download. It’s not quite the same as being there but it’s a close second!
