Now this review of his life makes me want to read all of Menger’s work. And I’m already way behind my reading!
I have Schumpeter’s original physical text of “Ten Great Economists” which I read long ago. How little I remember from it. Don’t you hate when that happens?
Cheers

I love the beard
And yet no mention of his fishing prowess…
I’m a big fan of these book excerpts by the way. It’s very refreshing to read such clear thinking on so many different topics by some of the most eminent men of the Austrian tradition, especially amidst these dark days of increasing govt intervention into the real economy.

Carl Menger Paved The Way!
Carl Menger left a legacy that sprang from what appears to be a simple and obvious conclusion: the merging of marginalism and subjectivism.
From that remarkable yet simple discovery, minds of a few – who recognized its scientific merit and did not interpose their ego – opened new vistas, uncovering gems of wisdom that unlocked the principles of prosperity.
Thank you Carl Menger.
>human needs are the driving force of the economic mechanism beyond the Robinson Crusoe economy or the economy without exchange.
Only if humans “need” books, toys, and entertainment. I don’t need 80% of the stuff in my house.
